THE OCEANS ARE CALLING

Why Cruises Are the AMAZING Vacation Choice
Cruises pack amazing value into one easy package—your fare includes food, accommodations, entertainment, and travel between exciting destinations. You can often cruise for under $100 per person, per night, which beats the cost of a hotel, dinner, and a show on land.
Families love them—many lines let kids sail free or at a discount. Luxury options go all out, bundling drinks, gratuities, excursions, and even flights. Whether you're after a budget escape or a high-end adventure, there’s a cruise for you.
You only unpack once, and your floating hotel whisks you from island to island or city to city—no train schedules, no suitcase hauling. Wake up somewhere new every day. Can’t choose between Italy and Spain? Do both.
Cruise ships range from action-packed mega-resorts to elegant small vessels and even tall sailing ships, so you can cruise your way. Onboard, it’s easy to meet people from all over the world—or maybe even someone special.
Cruises make travel fun, easy, and unforgettable.
Just climb aboard and let the adventure begin!

A Lifetime at Sea. A Calling to Guide Others.
My love affair with the ocean began in 1965, when I boarded Holland America Line’s legendary SS Rotterdam V for a nine-day voyage to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Bermuda. That single cruise lit a spark—a lifelong passion for ships, the sea, and the boundless world of ocean travel.
In 1978, still a teenager, I launched my first travel agency, The Philadelphia Travel Exchange. We quickly rose to become one of Holland America’s top producers, thanks to a pioneering concept called “Senior Citizen Sail.” Each summer, we filled buses with enthusiastic travelers bound for cruises from New York to Nassau and Bermuda—always aboard the beloved SS Rotterdam V.
As the years unfolded, my path broadened. In the 1990s and early 2000s, I ventured into hospitality, collaborating with major brands like Marriott Vacation Ownership and shaping the marketing and visual strategy for a new-build condo-hotel in Edgewater, Miami. I also partnered with cruise line startups and world-class design agencies, including Tomas Tillberg Design.
Yet through every chapter, one constant remains: a deep passion for cruise travel. To date, I’ve sailed on more than 50 ships and embarked on over 175 voyages—each one a reminder of why I fell in love with the sea in the first place.

Cruising can be expensive, but not always. Cruising can also get you great value for your money. Considering that some (if not all) food and onboard activities are included in your base fare, the total vacation cost is often less than what'd you pay for a land vacation.
Of course, this depends on which cruise line you choose, as well as your itinerary and what time of year you're cruising. Read through our list of best budget cruises for more information on which trips are the most affordable.
Cruise ships also offer a variety of cabin categories, all of which are sold at different price points. An inside cabin with no window is a lot less expensive than a suite.
Additionally, certain times of year are less expensive to sail than others. Taking a Caribbean cruise during hurricane season can net big savings, as can sailing the first or last few Alaska season sailings in May or September.
