MS PRINSENDAM

PDAM PROFILE.jpg

OCTOBER TRANSATLANTIC 2019

DECEMBER CARIBBEAN 2019

The big news with Prinsendam is she will be leaving the Holland America fleet in July of 2019. Sold to German travel operator, Phoenix Reisen, Prinsendam was originally built in 1988 for Royal Viking Line as Royal Viking Sun serving a luxury driven retirees. I sailed on the ship in October and December 2018 after years of desiring to do so but unable based to the length of her voyages and the cost. Read my entire post  here for the full scoop.

A few worthy points. If you can, book a cruise on this ship - while you can. She is an amazing representation of what a cruise ship should be and was: 800 passengers, 38,000 tons  delivering an unparalleled level of service. Combined with Holland America's legendary Dutch influences, a staff and crew that knows how to please its guests and an intimacy and on-board culture that will slip away with the ship when she leaves the fleet, almost. Holland America still has a few good ships in her arsenal including Rotterdam, Maasdam, Veendam and Amsterdam - all with less than 1,500 fellow guests on less than 65,000 tons.

Perhaps the best news is my book, "Prinsendam, Elegant Explorer." My objective on sailing on Prinsendam was to experience the best of Holland America and capture photos of this iconic ship for my second book which is nearing completion. The book is a tribute to Prinsendam, depicted through over 150 photos, 180 pages. The hardcover casebound collectable will be available in April - sign up for news and updates here: www.the elegantexplorer.com

As a preview to the book, here are some photos...savor the journey !
